Ocean Beach Master Plan

As climate-induced sea level rise sets in, erosion at San Francisco's Ocean Beach will continue to worsen. Working with government agencies, community stakeholders and the public, SPUR has developed a landmark climate adaptation and open space plan to address issues at Ocean Beach. The plan recommends six key moves for managing a changing coastline, protecting critical sewer infrastructure and upgrading public access to the beach.

SPUR has been following the revision process for Articles 10 and 11 of the Planning Code for several years and supports the revised sections in their current form. SPUR particularly commends the development of local guidelines for the implementation of Secretary of the Interior Standards, the additions regarding outreach to property owners in potential designated historic districts, the revised timeline for reclassification of Category V buildings and the inclusion of an economic hardship provision.

A Better Future for Bay Area Transit

By 2035, the Bay Area's 27 transit operators will face a combined $17 billion capital deficit and an $8 billion operating deficit. Unless costs and revenues change, and service improves, the viability of Bay Area transit is at risk. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission has launched the Transit Sustainability Project to identify policy solutions. SPUR recommends nine strategies to reach the TSP’s goals.
