2020 Honorees


Kofi Bonner
Founder and CEO of Bonner Enterprises; Incoming CEO of Bedrock


Kofi S. Bonner is an an architect and planner known for leading the redevelopment of the city of Emeryville. Mr. Bonner was formerly the Co-Chief Operating Officer for FivePoint, where he was responsible for all Northern California operations, land development planning, entitlements and public policy for the company. Currently, Mr. Bonner is the founder and CEO of Bonner Enterprises, a partner, investor and co-investor in mixed-use real estate development opportunities and technology ventures in the Bay Area and Ghana. 

Mr. Bonner is the incoming CEO of Bedrock, a Detroit-based real estate firm specializing in acquiring, developing, leasing, financing and managing commercial and residential buildings in downtown Detroit, Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio.






Carla Javits
President and CEO of REDF (The Roberts Enterprise Development Fund)

Carla Javits is President and CEO of REDF, a pioneering venture philanthropy galvanizing a national movement of social enterprises -- purpose-driven, revenue-generating businesses that help people striving to overcome employment barriers and get good jobs.

Under Ms. Javits' leadership, REDF grew its footprint from an initial California base to cover the United States. Through her stewardship, REDF has invested in more than 150 social enterprises in 30 states. These businesses have generated one billion dollars in revenue and employed 50,000 people, and counting. These individuals are helping to build a stronger, more inclusive economy and society.





john a. powell
Director of the Othering and Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley


john a. powell is Director of the Othering and Belonging Institute and Professor of Law, African American Studies and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He was previously the Executive Director at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Ohio State University, and prior to that, the founder and director of the Institute for Race and Poverty at the University of Minnesota. john formerly served as the National Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). He is a co-founder of the Poverty & Race Research Action Council. john led the development of an "opportunity-based" model that connects affordable housing to education, health, health care and employment and is well-known for his work developing the frameworks of "targeted universalism" and "othering and belonging" to effect equity-based interventions. His latest book is Racing to Justice: Transforming our Concepts of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society.



Refund Policy

Individual ticket purchases: If you request a refund between 2 and 10 business days prior to the event, SPUR can issue a 25 percent refund. Requests for refunds received less than 2 days prior to an event cannot be accommodated.

Sponsorship payments: Will not be refunded, as sponsorship benefits take effect immediately and are on-going through the date of the event.

Auxiliary Services

If, in order to participate in a SPUR event, you need auxiliary aids or services for a disability (e.g., qualified interpreter, qualified reader, written materials, taped texts) please submit your request five business days before the event to or 415-781-8726 x132. SPUR will work with you in identifying effective auxiliary aids or services that it can provide. If you need to cancel your request, please notify SPUR at least two business days before the event.
