Join us for the opening night of Jakarta: A Mirror of a Thousand Reflections – Dimensions, an exhibition that explores the complex, ever-evolving landscape of Jakarta through the lens of urban research and photography. A collaboration between scholar John Zarobell and photographer Pedro Lange-Churión, this exhibition builds on the themes of the Comparative Urbanism: Learning from Jakarta conference, held in August 2024 at SPUR, San Francisco.

Through layered visual and academic narratives, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with Jakarta not as an exoticized other, but as a living, breathing city confronting the global challenges of climate change, rapid development, and cultural transformation. Rather than offering definitive conclusions, the work bears witness to the textures of everyday life and the dynamic structures that shape Jakarta’s urban identity—encouraging reflection on how its experiences mirror those of cities around the world.

The evening will begin on the second floor with a panel discussion featuring Abidin Kusno, Pedro Lange-Churión, and John Zarobell. The conversation will engage themes from Kusno’s Jakarta, City of a Thousand Dimensions (NUS Press, 2023), a landmark study on the politics and practice of urban development in the world’s second-largest city. Together, the speakers will explore the complexities of planning in Asian megacities and the everyday lives of their inhabitants, while also connecting these ideas to the photographic work featured in the exhibition.

Following the discussion, guests will move to the first floor for a preview of the exhibition, accompanied by light bites and drinks. We look forward to welcoming you for an evening of dialogue, reflection, and visual exploration.Join us for the opening night of , an exhibition that explores the complex, ever-evolving landscape of Jakarta through the lens of urban research and photography.
