Title VI of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or nationality in any program that receives federal funds or other federal financial assistance, but it simply serves as the lowest common denominator when it comes to providing public transportation options that are truly equitable for all users. Luckily, several major transportation agencies around the country have become models in looking beyond Title VI to proactively advance equity in their fare systems, service planning, policing, procurement and more. Come learn about the tools and strategies that these operators have deployed, the lessons they’ve learned in doing so and how these best practices can be adopted by agencies across the country.
