The Urban Mystique

Evening Forum

Our own affection for the cities we love can often blind us to their nuanced imperfections. Can the California cities that we think of as great be something more? A new book, The Urban Mystique: Notes on California, Los Angeles, and Beyond, examines this very question. The book's author, Josh Stephens, covers nearly everything one could imagine, including the minutiae of setbacks, the regional impacts of transit investments, the promise of sustainable growth and the precariousness of urban politics in the 21st century. Join us for a conversation about the ineffable complexities that make all cities, be they in California or anywhere else, wondrous, maddening, and fascinating.

Co-presented by APA Northern California (1.5 AICP CM credits available).
