California requires all cities and counties to develop plans to meet their communities’ housing needs. These plans, known as housing elements, must be updated every five to eight years. This year, the City and County of San Francisco launched its housing element update and is planning to submit it to California’s Department of Housing and Community Development in 2022. In addition to addressing the housing needs of all San Franciscans, the revised housing element will prioritize residents’ housing preferences, racial and social equity goals, neighborhood resiliency and more. Come learn about the role of housing elements in developing equitable housing strategies in San Francisco, as well as across the state.
