How Well is Your Community Doing?

How can San Jose do the most for its communities with the resources it has? What indicators should it consider to guide those decisions? To help answer these questions, San Jose has developed the Social Progress Index, a new tool to catalyze and facilitate community discussions about how to improve the city. Seeking to examine issues such as whether people have adequate housing and education and who is being excluded from opportunity, the tool looks beyond the typical measures of economic progress in order to isolate communities’ most significant challenges and identify opportunities to address them. Come hear more about this groundbreaking new tool and learn how the city plans to utilize it to inform its future budget and policy processes.
