The Help-Yourself City

Lunchtime Forum

The new book The Help-Yourself City examines how communities around the country have taken urban planning into their own hands. Guerrilla bike lanes, ad hoc street furniture and pop-up parklets are highlights of the growing trend to remake cities to better suit their residents’ needs when local governments aren’t taking action. Join the author for a fascinating discussion about people’s relationships to their urban surroundings and the individualization of democratic responsibility.
