West Oakland has emerged as a vital hub in the international Industrial Arts Movement, which is re-inhabiting the city’s industrial infrastructure and deploying its tools to new ends. Often overlooked behind warehouse doors, a diverse cluster of new organizations is exploring a shift from individual creative enterprise towards monumental collaborative projects operating at social scales. Engage in a lively discussion with Karen Cusolito, American Steel Studios; Steven Young, The Crucible; Sean Orlando, Five Ton Crane arts collective; and Leslie Pritchett, Friends of the Gateway.
