Healthcare systems are on the front lines of the climate crisis. As major employers, property owners and “anchor institutions,” hospitals and managed care plans shape not only patient outcomes but also upstream drivers of health like housing, the environment, and community resilience. At the same time, federal climate and public health supports, including Inflation Reduction Act tax credits and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Climate Change and Health Equity, have faced rollbacks and restructuring, increasing pressure on state and local leadership.
Join SPUR for a member-only conversation exploring how healthcare providers and Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans (MCPs) are advancing sustainability and resilience strategies in California — from carbon neutrality, microgrids, and all-electric hospitals to housing supports, asthma remediation and environmental justice investments.
This forum will examine how healthcare institutions can reduce emissions from building operations and supply chains, strengthen clean energy portfolios, engage in policy and advocacy, and deploy community benefit and Medi-Cal reinvestment dollars to address the root causes of poor health.
