Join us for a ride on the future of biking in San Jose with VTA. Come experience a portion of the Central Bikeway Project — a transformative plan to create a safe, comfortable, and low-stress route for people of all ages and abilities to bike between Santa Clara and North San José.
The Central Bikeway is a key part of a larger bike highway network that connects essential services, job, trails, open spaces, transit, and higher education. This project was developed through an extensive community engagement process and marks the first on-street bike highway in Santa Clara County
The guided tour will begin at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station, travel a short stretch along El Camino Real, and continue into San Jose. Along the way, you’ll learn how the project will physically separate bicycles from car traffic, improve intersections to reduce conflict points, and connect major destinations and transit hubs, including Caltrain and BART stations.
The Central Bikeway aims to make bicycling a viable everyday transportation option, whether for commuting, running errands, or simply enjoying the city. By improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians, enhancing access to transit, and promoting sustainable travel, the Central Bikeway will help create healthier, more connected communities.
Bring your bike, helmet, water, and enthusiasm for shaping the future of active transportation in San Jose. This 6-mile roundtrip ride is mostly flat but includes some riding along busier streets, so it may not be entirely beginner friendly. You can see the map route below.
