Creating a Bay Area Sales Tax Fairness Credit

Lunchtime Forum

California has the highest state sales tax rate in the country, and local sales taxes for Bay Area cities and counties have become some of the most significant, and most relied-upon, sources of revenue to keep these governments in the black. However, these types of taxes also disproportionately burden low-income earners and those who have been most impacted by structural inequity. Come learn about how a first-of-its-kind regional sales tax credit could put money back into the pockets of Bay Area residents while continuing to provide the revenue necessary to keep our cities and counties alive.
