Improving Food Access in San Jose

Tour

Photo by Flickr user Robert Couse-Baker

For the past five years, Valley Verde has been assisting Silicon Valley’s low-income residents in growing organic produce in their own yards as a means to encourage healthy eating and combat food insecurity. In 2017, the organization successfully opened its own community greenhouse near downtown San Jose that serves as both an urban farm and an educational space for local residents. With a massive new investment in downtown development on the horizon, come tour the facility and talk about the role of grassroots organizations and greenspaces in San Jose. Generously sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.
