Sarah Atkinson

SPUR seeks to improve the Bay Area's ability to respond and recover from environmental hazards like earthquakes, groundwater rise, and sea level rise through policy advocacy and research. As SPUR's hazard resilience senior policy manager, Sarah leads SPUR’s work on hazard mitigation, hazard adaptation, and environmental justice. While pursuing her Master's degree in city planning, Sarah focused on climate adaptation, community-led planning, and disaster mitigation. Prior to graduate school, Sarah worked in community food access and education, environmental communications, and green construction in both the Bay Area and Massachusetts. Her commitment to racial equity and social justice strongly inform her work. Sarah holds a Master’s degree in city and regional planning and a B.A. in environmental sciences from the University of California at Berkeley.
