SPUR's Concerns Regarding San Francisco's Proposed Demolition Ordinance

Advocacy Letter

The San Francisco Planning Commission introduced legislation that creates new controls on residential demolition, merger, conversion and alterations. SPUR understands that this legislation was created in response to concerns over illegal demolitions, but we believe that the proposed legislation goes far beyond the issues and, if enacted, would make it significantly more difficult to construct housing in San Francisco.

SPUR recommends a task force be created to craft more targeted legislation to address the specific issues that have been used to circumvent existing rules instead of the complicated, labor intensive legislation that has been proposed.
