Debates about regional growth tend to revolve around a zero sum game between the transit-rich core and the auto-oriented edges. For decades the core has grown more slowly as anti-growth politics have spread throughout most of the inner Bay Area, while the edge has grown — often without the best planning or infrastructure. Can we change this pattern? What will it take? Join regional and local leaders for a frank discussion of the possibilities of changing regional planning and a reconsideration of well-founded ideas from a half-century ago. With Alex Schafran of UC Berkeley, Egon Terplan, regional planning director for SPUR, Elizabeth Patterson, Mayor for the City of Benicia and Jim Jakel, city manager for the City of Antioch.

This event is co-presented and hosted by Arup.
