Like many city centers, Downtown Oakland bears the scars and disruptions of urban freeways, a legacy of 20th-century transportation thinking. While long-term ideas for removing or transforming freeways are proceeding, a lot can be done right now to reconnect blighted urban fabric, reclaim dead space and mitigate noise and safety impacts. Hear from practitioners who are tackling the impacts of these freeways through art, intervention and urban design.
