Local and Global Networks of Immigrant Professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area

Evening Forum

Silicon Valley has been developed by immigrant networks, and in turn, some of these entrepreneurs have used their experiences to establish regional centers of technological innovation in India, Israel and China. Annalee Saxenian will discuss how local wealth in the Bay Area is truly global wealth, helping us to understand the role that Silicon Valley and the globalization of the economy play in the Bay Area's economy and culture, and questioning how the future of San Francisco relates to the development of industries in Silicon Valley.

Annalee Saxenian is dean and professor at the School of Information and the department of city and regional planning at the University of California at Berkeley. Her most recent publication is The New Argonauts: Regional Advantage in a Global Economy.
