Building Blocks in Oakland

Young Urbanists 12:30 p.m.
What should the neighborhood around the SPUR Oakland office look like far into the future? Join us as we work together to play Oakland 2100, a new game that helps visualize future urban growth. Focusing solely on the blocks around SPUR, players will navigate trade-offs, prioritize and place investments, and engage in the type of negotiations that happen in the building of cities every day. Then join us in May as we take the lessons learned on this small scale and use them to envision possible futures for the entire downtown.

Visualizing Oakland in 2100

Young Urbanists 6:00 p.m.
In the game Oakland 2100, players work together to imagine the future of the city, navigating trade-offs, prioritizing and placing investments, and engaging in the type of negotiations that happen in the building of cities every day. Join us for an interactive evening, facilitated by students of UC Berkeley’s Master of Urban Design program, as we manipulate a giant, 9-foot by 9-foot scale model to imagine the future possibilities for the whole of downtown Oakland.
