The Opportunity

The Marketing Manager leads and manages all marketing efforts, overseeing marketing strategy, branding, press engagement, digital communications, and social media in service of advancing SPUR’s mission to create an equitable, sustainable and prosperous region, where all people thrive. They lead, execute, and project manage the marketing strategy of the organization, in partnership with contractors as needed. Ultimately, their role is to boost brand awareness, drive membership, support fundraising, and achieve marketing objectives.

Job brief

We are in search of a seasoned, dynamic and self-starting Marketing Manager who will assume leadership over all-encompassing marketing initiatives, including social media, digital campaigns, email marketing campaigns, press interactions, and marketing innovations at SPUR. As the Marketing Manager , you will lead SPUR’s efforts in crafting and executing blueprints designed to both maintain and elevate our brand's presence.

Your expertise will be pivotal in strategically allocating resources across a spectrum of projects, all while delineating ambitious short-term targets and enduring long-term aspirations. We are looking for a marketing strategist who understands the power of marketing to help achieve fundraising and policy goals. Your leadership will help SPUR achieve its goals and establish its brand presence in the nonprofit, government, and advocacy spaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute SPUR’s marketing efforts, including digital, email marketing, social media, website, and press and media engagement. Develop, implement and execute marketing strategies that align with our organization's mission, goals, and SPUR's policy priorities.
  • Draft appeal copy for all marketing purposes including membership and signature event fundraising.
  • Utilize SPUR’s mass marketing platform, Pardot, to deliver digital marketing products
  • Produce annual report, impact reports, and other marketing collateral.
  • Ensure our brand message is strong and consistent across all channels and marketing efforts, including SPUR-related communications such as events, email campaigns, web pages, and promotional material.
  • Use various marketing channels (e.g., social media, email marketing, digital ads, events) to promote our organization, increase awareness of our mission and programs, and advance SPUR's policy insights.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment of marketing efforts with overall organizational goals, including close coordination with SPUR's policy and development teams.
  • Develop press and media engagement strategies, including the creation of press releases and proactive outreach to build relationships with press contacts to highlight SPUR's policy insights and research findings.
  • Create and curate social media content and graphic design that amplifies our policy priorities, translating complex research into accessible and engaging posts to drive public awareness and engagement.
  • Create and curate social media content and graphic design that amplifies our fundraising initiatives.
  • Manage contractors and consultants engaged in marketing projects, including those specific to SPUR's initiatives, ensuring timely deliverables and successful project outcomes.
  • In partnership with the Chief of Strategy & Operations, develop and manage the organization's marketing budget, allocating resources effectively for SPUR-related marketing needs.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets for the Marketing department, including SPUR-specific initiatives.

Requirements and skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Proven experience developing and implementing successful marketing strategies
  • Experience running successful marketing campaigns, including press & media
  • Experience with CRM and email marketing software
  • Experience managing graphic design, illustration, photography, and/or videography projects
  • Strong writing skills
  • Skilled in Google Analytics, content management systems (Drupal or similar), mass email (Pardot or similar), CRM databases (Salesforce or similar)
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to set and prioritize goals
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform decisions
  • Knowledge of various marketing channels and best practices
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$100,000 depending on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. SPUR offers a complete benefits package of health insurance, dental insurance, vision care, basic life insurance, pre-tax commuter benefits, employee assistance program (EAP) and retirement plan with twenty-five percent contribution matching.

Hybrid Work Environment

At SPUR the health of our employees and their families is our top priority. SPUR has a hybrid workplace model defined by a combination of remote and in-person work. We have mandatory all staff in-person days on Monday and Wednesday. Staff may be required to attend other in-person meetings, events and programs as needed. All policies are subject to change as relevant health orders change.
