The Opportunity

SPUR seeks creative and highly organized candidates for its Digital Communications Specialist position. The Digital Communications Specialist will work closely with the Communications Director to manage content for our communications channels, including publications, website, social media platforms and mass emails. This position will require a flexible candidate comfortable in performing a range of tasks, from headline writing to deadline management to data analysis. This role will be expected to engage with SPUR staff, board members and external partners. The Digital Communications Specialist plays a key role in helping SPUR realize its mission.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage Social Media Channels

    • Manage SPUR's social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook), produce and post content
    • Grow SPUR’s social media presence and expand our audience
    • Support staff members in fostering greater social media presence
       
  • Manage Website

    • Post new content and keep site updated
    • Manage Web Developer to execute software upgrades, resolve bugs and implement new features
       
  • Manage Publication Deadlines

    • Assist Communications Director in managing Policy Directors and contractors to meet deadlines
    • Format policy briefs using Word or InDesign templates
    • Conduct photo research, copy edit and proofread content
       
  • Manage Email Newsletters

    • Manage content and production of mass emails
    • Write cover letters, headlines and blurbs
       
  • Data Reporting and Analysis

    • Analyze and report regularly on website, social media and newsletter data
    • Develop insights to help with key questions about use and impact of our content
       
  • Write Blog Posts

    • Write occasional blog posts about our public programs and other topics
       
  • Manage Special Projects

    • Manage and execute special projects such as videos, infographics and other collateral
       
  • Program and Event Promotion

    • Collaborate across departments to promote and market SPUR events
    • Write copy for event invitations and other materials

Key Qualifications

  • Interest in cities, public policy and the Bay Area
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Eye for design and visual communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Highly organized
  • Proficiency in the following tools or similar: social media scheduling (Content Cal), website content management (Drupal), website metrics (Google Analytics), mass email (Pardot), customer relationship management (Salesforce)
  • Skills in HTML, InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop or Canva a plus
  • Tactful and clear communicator
  • Works cooperatively and effectively as a member of a team

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$72,000 and will be based on experience and commensurate with skills and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position. SPUR offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
