Policy
Erika Pinto supports and leads SPUR's work in San José on planning and public policy. She has over seven years of experience working in local government, coalition building, local policy and advocacy. Previously, she has worked in Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis' office covering planning and transportation for District 1, as well as supporting the Supervisor in her role on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors. She began her career as a community organizer with local community-based organizations, and has worked in developing and implementing participatory grantmaking models to fund projects addressing public open space, food insecurity, and early childhood education.
In addition, Erika has conducted extensive research and work on urban oil drilling, land use, and community design as part of a fellowship and capstone project with the City of Culver City. She earned her Master's in Urban and Regional Planning from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and her Bachelor's degree in Growth and Structure of Cities from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia.
