Nuria Fernandez, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of VTA, plans, organizes, directs and administers all functions of VTA, under policy direction of the Board. Ms. Fernandez has responsibility for all Divisions of the Authority required to operate, maintain and implement key programs including expansion of bus and rail service, construction of mass transit facilities, extension of the regional heavy rail system (BART), and planning and construction of highway and other related projects. Ms. Fernandez is a Senior Executive with over 30 years of experience in the transportation field and a professional career that includes planning, design and construction of mass transit systems, airport operations and policy development of federal transportation programs. Nuria previously served a s Chief Operating Officer for the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), where she was responsible for the overall security of the MTA system, development of its capital and environmental sustainability programs, federal and state government affairs and management oversight of the five operating agencies and capital construction. She has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Bradley University and an MBA from Roosevelt University in Illinois.
