Since 2007, the city of Vienna, Austria has undertaken an extraordinary number of projects in the field of affordable housing, creating exemplifications of urban habitation, neighborhood revitilization and the creation of new communities in which nearly 60% of the Viennese population now live — all the result of a process substantially different than what is commonly used across the United States. Join William Menking, editor in chief of Architect's Newspaper, and Dr. Wolfgang Forster, chief of housing research for the City of Vienna, for an in-depth discussion of how Vienna's affordable housing process compares to the cities of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco and what lessons can be learned from its success.
