Destroyed in a dramatic and highly publicized implosion in 1972, the Pruitt-Igoe public housing complex in St. Louis is a widespread symbol of failure among architects, politicians and policymakers. Director Chad Freidrichs’ new documentary, The Pruitt-Igoe Myth (2011), explores the social, economic and legislative issues that led to the decline of conventional public housing in America while tracing the poignant personal narratives of several project residents. A short discussion will follow the screening. This event is generously sponsored by the Koret Foundation.
