West Oakland’s 16th Street Station, built in 1912, was the western terminus of the Transcontinental Railroad and once handled 400 trains per day. Damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, it remains an eerie and little-known architectural gem. The building is slated for renovation as the centerpiece of the Central Station project. Join Frankie Whitman, business development consultant for station owner BRIDGE Housing, and composer Paul Crabtree, who is at work on an opera to be staged in the space, for a rare opportunity to see the station interior and discuss the creative use of dormant urban spaces. $10. Limited to 25 people. SPUR members only.
