Donald Appleyard's seminal 1981 book Livable Streets revealed the detrimental effects of automobile traffic on street life and communities. How has this influential book affected city planning and transport policies since then? In this talk, hear about contemporary evidence of automobile impacts and best practices from places where livable streets have become a priority. With Bruce Appleyard, who is working on the second edition to his father's book and Joshua Hart, who will discuss his plane-free journey from San Francisco to the UK, where he replicated Donald Appleyard's study for the first time in Europe.
