Make a year-end gift to SPUR >>

It’s been a good year for urbanism. We'd like to take a moment to share with you some of SPUR’s biggest accomplishments of 2014, preview our goals for 2015 and ask you to support SPUR with a generous gift at this year end.

Here are some of the highlights:

We published a ground-breaking report, the Bay Area Economic Prosperity Strategy, culminating two years of work on how to grow the middle class through policy decisions at the local and regional level.

We led the campaign to reinvest in San Francisco’s transportation system, resulting in the passage of Proposition A, a $500 million bond, and setting the stage for further funding in 2016.

We developed a 10-year strategy to transform downtown San Jose into an urban center for the South Bay by attracting more people, investment and activity.

We re-framed the conversation about San Francisco’s housing affordability crisis, pointing the way forward to constructive policy changes.

In the year ahead, we will continue to convene people from the cities of the Bay Area to find constructive solutions to the most important issues we face:

We will work with the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and others on a vision plan for Caltrain, the fastest-growing transit service in the Bay Area.

We will complete our second sea level rise adaptation project in San Francisco, focused on Mission Creek.

We will launch SPUR Oakland in January of 2015.

We will also continue to help the region grapple with the consequences of its extraordinarily successful economy. We believe that the job-creation engine of Silicon Valley is something to be proud of and to build on. It enables us to make progress on so many pressing problems. But it will take real leadership from many quarters to actually solve our problems, from affordability to congestion.

We know you share our concern over these issues, and we hope we can count on your support. Here’s how you can get involved:
