ABOUT SPUR

The San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR) is one of North America’s preeminent urban planning and public policy organizations. Through research, advocacy and public education, SPUR promotes good planning and good government. SPUR is a member-supported nonprofit organization. The organization will be constructing a new headquarters building, set to open this spring, known as the SPUR Urban Center.

GENERAL SUMMARY

SPUR is seeking a Business Membership Intern to work closely with the Development Director in managing the business membership program. This program provides crucial income for SPUR provides a great way to get both private sector and nonprofit-sector experience at the same time!
Learn about the civic leaders of the Bay Area and help SPUR maintain our strong relationships with this important group of people. This is a great position for someone deciding about their career path, or for someone looking to get communications and marketing experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Update business member database records on an on-going basis. Requires detailed attention be paid to important relationships.
  • Support Development Director in producing communications for business members, including mailings, emails, phone calls, etc.
  • Assist Development Director in creation of a new business membership brochure. This project will include work with graphic designers, copyediting, creating marketing language and vendor communication for production. In addition, the project will involve research on how to best translate the printed edition into electronically accessible forms (PDFs for email, website version, etc.).
  • Attend SPUR Business Member Breakfast Series and assist with event production and promotions.
  • Support other development team needs as needed

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Office skills
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel to mail merge, database experience and Mac OS experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate in writing and over the phone
